Museum of Rocket Space Engineering
S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation
Our Museum is unique in that it displays in its entirety the most prominent achievements of our native manned cosmonautics for the last 30 years.
In 1963 on the territory of Experimental Design Bureau the demonstration hall was set up on the initiative of the academician S.P. Korolev, its manager and Chief Designer of the rocket-space systems. This is currently the Museum of Cosmonautics History that is open for general public.
Unique real hardware of rocket-space engineering and scale mock-ups exhibit the history of developing the first home long-range ballistics rockets, the world's first artificial earth satellites, the world's first manned spacecraft and the long-duration orbital stations.
It is in our Museum that you may touch the real descent module of the world's first cosmonaut Yyuri Alexeyevich Gagarin, have a look at the Voskhod multi-man space vehicle from which the world's first extravehicular activities were carried out. You will be allowed to sit for a while in cosmonaut's seat inside the real Soyuz spacecraft which flew in space.
S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energiya which houses the museum occupies the world's leading position with respect to the mission manned programs.
In 1996 the 50th anniversary of the enterprise was celebrated.
S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energiya is currently headed by Yuri Pavlovich Semenov, President of the Corporation, General Designer, the member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Visiting Cosmonauts Training Centre named after Gagarin you will be able to see unique simulators, the centrifuge, the hydro-lab with models of space vehicles and cosmonauts work in pseudo-weightlessness in hydrosphere where cosmonauts outer space activity is simulated in order to work through operations in real conditions.
During the last 25 years the enterprise has developed a few generations of the Salyut, Mir orbital stations as well as the highly efficient system of their transportation support (the Soyuz, Progress spacecraft, the Raduga recovery ballistic capsule), the Energiya multipurpose rocket-space transportation system and Buran reusable orbiter.
Real space vehicles flown in space are prominent among other exhibits of the demonstration hall.
The museum exposition acquaints visitors with our outstanding scientists, testers, engineers,
developers of space engineering prototypes; followers, associates and disciples of S.P. Korolev. Memorial room of S.P. Korolev restores the Chief Designer's study.
